Constitution Day Speakers


The Centre for the Study of Democracy, the St. Mary’s College of Maryland will celebrate the 220th Anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution, tomorrow at day presentations retired US District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson and James Apple legal educators, address, “International Perspectives of the United States Constitution.”

The event, which is free and open to the public, is responsible for 4:40 am to Daugherty Palmer Commons on the university campus officials said in a statement.

Donovan invites submissions on family law

The chairman of Oireachtas Committee on the Constitution, Denis Donovan, has called on people to make submissions to assist changes in the Law relating to The Family. His Committee is to look at the legal problems associated with gay rights, access for fathers to children, divorce maintenance and co-habitation. New Jersey Daily Briefing; Hearings Open on Divorce Law

The Senate Family Services Committee opened hearings yesterday on proposals to revamp New Jersey's way of divorce. The main speakers were members of the Commission to Study the Law of Divorce, which had called for a greater use of mediation. Among the measures before the Senate is a bill, already passed by the Assembly, that would limit the power of Family Court judges to order divorced fathers to pay their children's college tuition. The committee chairman, Senator Joseph Cafiero, a Cape May Republican, said the bill was just one of about 20 divorce-law issues before the committee. More : query.nytimes.com

15 citizens’ initiatives make November ballot.

Aug. 18--DENVER - With a 15th citizens' initiative making this fall's ballot Thursday, voters will consider more questions this year than they have in nearly a century. The Secretary of State's Office announced that the final citizen's effort to submit petitions to place a measure on the November ballot had collected enough signatures from registered voters. That effort, to be known as Amendment 45, is nearly identical to a referendum already placed on the ballot by the Colorado Legislature, which would create domestic partnerships for gays and lesbians.
