Same-sex domestic partners are not entitled to health benefits from public universities or local and state governments under the State Constitution's two-year-old marriage amendment, the Michigan Court of Appeals said in a ruling released Friday. Couple Are Charged by Jury In Drug Death of Their Son
A New Jersey couple whose 18-year-old son died of a heroin overdose last year have been indicted on manslaughter charges by a grand jury that said the parents had acted recklessly in his death. Some legal experts said yesterday that the indictment took parental liability too far and was likely to fail, in part because the son was legally an adult. The 18-year-old, Leonardo DiPasquale, died at the home of his parents, Mary and Lewis Hockenbury of Lebanon Township, after he took drugs he obtained from three friends, the Hunterdon County prosecutor's office said.
