PARIS, Feb. 27. – Ferdinand Pinney Earle to-day gave to THE NEW YORK TIMES correspondent the only authentic interview with him since his arrest. He was interviewed in his cell in the old prison, built in the time of Francis I. at Romorantin, in the Department of Loire and Cher, where he awaits trial next week for the abduction of his child last October. Changes ahead in courts
One of the first changes the Superior Court judges will initiate is filling the juvenile court judge's position in Richmond County that has been vacant since Judge Herbert Kernighan Jr. died. The judges are contemplating asking two or more attorneys to serve part time instead of choosing just one. And for the first time, those with business in the court might see a woman or a black judge on the bench. In a recent interview with Chronicle editors, incoming Chief Judge J. Lawyer asks to dismiss assault charge against Centralia grandma
Attorney Don McConnell, the police reportedly said discretion and not stop Barbara Hughes Sunday after a fight on foods. Corzine May Sign Civil Unions Into Law Thursday
Gov. Jon S. Corzine said he hopes to sign civil unions into law on Thursday, which would give gay couples the same rights as married couples, but is worried that mayors will be able to refuse to conduct the ceremonies. "That would not be equal treatment under the law, but I would like to understand what the rights and obligations are,'' Corzine said Monday, adding that his lawyers were reviewing the bill.
